In 2012 the year London hosted the Olympics, Knight's Academy basketball team won gold in the London school youth games and won silver nationally. This year Knight's Academy have made the decision to no longer finance the basketball programme essentially cancelling all teams and training. What happened to the Olympic legacy?
The boys who play in these teams are dedicated and hard working and deserve their commitment and skill to be recognised and honoured by their school, they are the most successful sporting team at Knight's which is a sporting Academy.
This is a quote from Knight's mission statement regarding sport:
'We will pursue excellence for all in PE & Sport and excellence through PE & Sport. We will raise standards of achievement in PE and Sport for all our students. We will use the power of PE & Sport to enhance their academic, personal and social development. We will increase their self-esteem, infuse them with a sense of pride in their successes, encourage them to strive for improvement, motivate them to achieve more and thus raise their standards of attainment in all areas of the curriculum.'
Please join us in petitioning the Head of Knight's to reverse this decision and honour their statement in relation to all of their pupils, not just some.

To:
Dr Bennett, Head Teacher Haberdashers Aske's Knights Academy.
Continue the investment in the basketball programme in Knight's Academy.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

This is important to me as I am a member of the Knights academy Basketball team and have been for almost three years, I have also been to the Bosnia training camp three times. If the funding of this sport is taken not only me but a great number of pupils at knights academy will be affected.

Sport unites and gives all a chance to prove themselves and offer self-esteem. It creates friendships, builds trust and offers tangible experiences that can be used in day to day live, employment and self development. In short it is a must for all, especially children.
