Downtown Boston Business Improvement District: Don't force loyal pushcart vendors out of DTx as desired by BID

Pushcart vendors have long provided Downtown Crossing with alternative retail options for food & accessories, without interfering in the operation of DTx's retail establishments.

BID claims Downtown Crossing needs upgraded carts/merchandise, thereby forcing the current vendors out of DTx by the end of March, 2013 (now extended to the end of May, 2013). This petition will show Downtown Boston BID that current vendors/merchandise in Downtown Crossing are (and should continue to be) a staple of this district.

On Saturday morning at 10:30am, all 1,000+ signatures & comments received up to that point in time, were personally delivered to the Vendors Association President Craig Caplan in Downtown Crossing. Craig has expressed great appreciation to everyone who has signed/supported them/passed the word along. These signatures/comments will be given to the Boston Redevelopment Association during a vendors-BRA meeting this coming Tuesday, 3/19.

Though the paper form of this petition is already finalized, all documentation cross-references this petition's webpage, meaning the BRA/BID can continually check-in and see any new signatures/comments received. For this reason, I am keeping this petition open until the end of May, when the vendors' current licenses are set to expire. As always, come back to keep updated with more information! Thanks again to everyone.

We are almost at our goal! I can't thank everyone enough for spreading the word about this worthwhile cause.

If you or a friend are going to provide your signature, I ask that you please provide a full name. I've found a signature which contains only 3 initials, and I am unable to accept this as a valid signature. I appreciate your understanding!

Great work everyone. Come back soon to read further updates in the "News" section.

    6. 60-day extension for DTx vendors! (but don't breathe a sigh of relief yet)

The Boston Herald has released an article at which states the Mayor has told the Public Works Department to extend all vendors' licenses for another 60 days, bringing the expiration to the end of May.

Though this is a positive step, this is not a "cure-all". Much work is still to be done, meaning we STILL need your support via this petition & any calls you can make to the Mayor's office or to the BID President's office. Let's keep working for the vendors toward a PERMANENT solution, so we don't face losing them in May. Thanks again to everyone for your support!
