CHESSIE RODRIGUEZ: DNR let her stay with her family!

I personally do not know the family, but was tooken back when I seen the news. They have raised Lilly the deer since birth it would be losing a family member. This might not help but its worth a try. I am from Genesee County and I think what this family did to save a baby deer and raise her is incredible. The DRN says the deer can hurt someone at any moment, but isn't that what the family have already done is taken a chance? Why not let them take their own chances on if something bad may happen to them. Just like an owner of any dog, or animal they take chances on loving that animal no matter what, and letting that animal be part of their families, animals can turn at any moment and become mean (I know this from personal experience). I hope this helps Lilly and her family!

A local Genesee County couple is learning a hard lesson about having a deer as part of the family. Lilly the deer's mother was hit and killed by a car five years ago. As the mother deer lay dying she gave birth to two fawns, one died, the other was in rough shape. Police were called and when asked if the homeowners could try to save the deer. The officer replied you can try although the fawn probably won't live more than 15 minutes. Last week Lilly turned five. Neighbors in the area have no problem with the couple having a Lilly, but according to the homeowners that changed when a neighbor's guest saw her and that person apparently called the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The couple called the DNR and were told it is illegal to take a fawn into your home and raise it as a pet. Now it looks like Lilly will be taken from the only home she has ever known. The DNR says the two choices for Lilly are to be rehabilitated back into the wild, or she will have to be put down -- something the couple doesn't want to happen, but they really have no choice in the matter. The couple has retained an attorney in hopes that they will be able to keep Lilly.

Michigan DNR says it's found a new home - the Detroit Zoo - for Lilly, Genesee County's miracle deer

GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- Lilly, a domesticated deer raised for five years by a Genesee County couple, is apparently headed to the Detroit Zoo. The state Department of Natural Resources said today, June 7, that pending testing for disease, Lilly will be moved to the zoo, possibly ending a whirlwind controversy that included online petitions and fundraising aimed at allowing the unidentified couple who raised Lilly from birth to keep the deer at their home.

DOE! Family Battles To Keep Pet Deer

A family is doing everything they can to keep their deer companion. The Genesee County, Mich., couple, who have declined to give their names to the media, said they have been told by the state's Department of Natural Resources that "Lilly," their pet of five years, can't stay with them any longer, WNEM reports.

I'm signing this because first of all people need to mind their own business regarding what goes on in other people's homes when no harm is being done. Secondly, if this deer has been n the family home since birth there is no way she will adapt to wild living &finding a place for get to live will be emotionally devastating to the deer & the family. No harm is being done, only love, so just let it be.

This government seems to be run by evil trolls who have no concept of morality or doing the right thing. How dare they "intervene" with what they feel is correct when it is obvious these good people were only doing what they considered the right and moral thing to do in a bad situation. They are not hurting anyone else and obviously not hurting this deer. The government needs to quit over-reaching and mind its own business.

The poor deer has only one chance at survival and that would be to stay with the family. If set back into the wild it would not know how to survive. The DNR says that someone could be hurt by lily but if that was the case it would have happend already. People take the chance with other pets every day. Do i think people should be aloud to take and raise fawns as there pets..no but in this circumstance it would only be best for the deer. They clearly have been successful in taking good care of the poor thing!!!
