Dedicated Police Resources for Downtown Transient Issues

    1. Petition by

      SLO Downtown Association

Together let's minimize aggressive transient behaviors in Downtown San Luis Obispo

-we are addressing aggressive/criminal/undesirable behaviors ONLY,

       typically related to transient issues

-we support ALL homeless services and organizations and have been

directly involved with Prado Day Center since its inception

-locals, tourists and business owners should feel safe and comfortable

      walking around Downtown SLO

It’s time to “change the culture” in Downtown! We need your help to lobby the City Council for real solutions.

The Downtown Association Board of Directors, in response to members’ concerns and requests, has voted to ask that the City Council provide funding for two uniformed police officers assigned and dedicated to the Downtown area seven days a week.
If you agree with this position, please sign the online petition that will be forwarded to the City Council prior to its April 9 budget hearing. You are also encouraged to attend that meeting at 6 PM, 990 Palm Street (City Hall) to show your support of dedicated police presence in Downtown. Call 541-0286 for more info.

Another opportunity to voice your concerns is the Downtown Association’s Strategic Planning Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 6 – 8 PM, SLO Museum of Art.

I Live and work in downtown SLO and it makes me feel unsafe. Actually, very unsafe given many homeless people tend to sleep around my building (the Merrill Lynch building) and I never know when I have to step over them to access the door if they will be violent and try to attack me.

Transients often cause difficult situations to arise, and are not always something that the average business can handle.

I work in the downtown area and sometimes do not feel safe waking downtown to shop and make bank deposits

Having a business downtown SLO I encounter this issue on a daily basis. It continues to get worse and on several occasions I have feared for my own safety and that of my staff. PLEASE do this to help the downtown area become a safer place for families and shoppers!!!

Because I don't like watching single mothers with infants being aggressively harassed like it's 6th street in San Francisco. This is San Luis Obispo. Also, it pisses me off to hear that towns like Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara are buying Bus tickets for their homeless to come to SLO.
