Revise the Final 2014-2015 School Start Times

We as parents find it important to reconsider the 2014-2015 school start times as the current decision made will cause a substantial inconvenience for students and parents. Some of our concerns would be safety, additional child care expenses, and transportation issues. In some cases school for elementary students will be starting well after parents need to be at work. These young children depend on an adult to take them to school as they are too young to be home alone or drive themselves. During the Winter months some of the schools will be getting out just before dark. This will also mean that children riding the bus might not get home until 4:30pm or later. Extracurricular activities will be a challenge as well. It is our hope that the school board will reconsider the start time given the reasons above.

Parents should have a say in their children's welfare. As well, what about the working parents? If the board wants to change things ok....but have a FULL solution to present to parents. Not just here is the new time your kid will go to school bc we say so, and oh you work, figure it out. Which parents are then telling me they quit their jobs bc they can't afford before school care, and are forced closer to poverty by taking away income.

I am not an elementary parent. However, am opposed to the change in the High School changes. A poll was taken at WHS and 75% of the entire school body was also opposed to the later times. Kids involved in extra-curricular activities, (sports, band, show choir, church activities, etc), already getting home at 7-8 pm. This is followed by study time, dinner, and night routines. Family time will become a weekend luxury, and jobs more difficult to attend. As our youth gain independence, they should also have a voice in an important decision that affects their lives as well. Thank you for your time.

Most parents work while their child is in school it would be common senses for jr high to start later

If the district keeps the late start, the financial burden of before-care should be shared by all.
