CRESTVIEW ELEMENTARY CAMPUS CONVERSION

    1. April Bauer
    2. Petition by

      April Bauer

THE STUDY IS FLAWED! The conversion of this elementary school serving 514 students Monday-Friday during daytime hours to an adult campus serving 1750 students Monday-Saturday 8AM-9PM will impose an extreme hardship on the surrounding neighborhood. Of the many concerns traffic and safety are obvious, other issues include air quality, hydrology, noise, light pollution...The volume of students is projected to generate 2,282 vehicle trips per day(for the traffic analysis a 50% vehicle to student ratio was assumed) in this neighborhood of approximately 150 homes with one way in, one way out on a single lane street. Gridlock. will result, ingress and egress of emergency reaponse vehicles virtually impossible.  Please include this petition and all signatures in the comments section of the Mitigated Negative Declaration.

page 2 paragraph 1 "the large number of residences within the neighborhood would not meet current city subdivision standards due to concerns over emergency ingress and egress." This statement alone appears to make the residents case that the proposed project is inappropriate for the sight.

    5. The corner of Crestview and Sunset will be lit up like a shopping center.

VUSD is going to go ahead with this school and put it in place. It is up to the school district to accept the responsibility in making more lanes on Sunset and Crestview and adding other access roads to control the traffic they will bring in. The city is aware that this will bring a huge traffic issue but the school district needs to come up with a solution for the expansion and a plan for traffic control. It is up to the school district to update roads and make more room for traffic to flow like it does now. The studies they have produced do not include any of the added traffic from putting 500 cars in one place at one time. This isn’t the city of Vista’s responsibility to add roads and lanes but the schools. I am all for adult education but this project needs to include more road access and the district to provide transportation to its students to keep traffic to a minimum!

The Crestview site is not appropriate for such an activity. The road is too congested already. Sunset is a one-lane road! It will be impossible for emergency vehicles to access the area. I am all for adult education, it is sorely needed, but this is NOT and cannot be made into, an adequate site.

I have friends/relatives on Crestview! I can't imagine adding more traffic to this area! VUSD needs to do their homework. This is not a smart thing to do.

Because this is right by my boyfriends house where I go frequently. I know how frustrating it is for the community there just to keep up with regular maintenance. This would be very hazardous.
