This is important because the extended school day will deeply affect the way Walter Payton College Prep High School educates young men and women. This matters because the current schedule has allowed Walter Payton High School to operate at a level that paid off with being ranked 2nd in the state of Illinois in 2009, and for several years since. Walter Payton was also ranked #96 in the country by U.S. News & World Reports. Our current schedule is unique and empowers us to work to new heights. And if the current proposed added minutes plan goes through, it could forever change our academic standing. Assuming that simply adding extra minutes will transfer into higher scores at other schools is not the right answer for this High School. Thank you very much.

A longer school day will only take away from the student's quality of life. Payton's program is already vigorous enough as is.

I was a Payton student and I valued the unique styles of learning I encountered there. Payton students work hard enough already on schoolwork; making the school day longer will not increase productivity. Additionally, the plan will make many students arrive home later after school, clubs, sports, and other extra curricular activities. Many students commute to school, and limiting their time at home when they can actually do their homework is not beneficial in any way.

Payton is already a great school and has the National ranking to prove it. Also, I was one of those students who spent an hour+ traveling to and from school on public transportation. Being involved in an activity before and after school meant I left my house at 5:30am and didn't return until 5:30pm and I didn't necessarily live the best neighborhoods. After that 12 hours plus 3-4 hours of homework, I barely had enough time left to eat and sleep. Extending the school day just wouldn't be beneficial for Payton.

A school like Walter Payron will not benefit from a plan that clearly does not solve many of the problems within CPS. Like most of the students, I believe that Payton has established and somewhat perfected education that provides highly achieving students.

The idea of a longer school day is great and probably what CPS needs. However, for schools that exceed standards, like Payton, it would only increase stress for already stressed students.
