Vermont Governor Jim Douglas has maintained that he opposes not only gay marriage, but the Vermont Legislature's use of its time to debate and likely pass a marriage bill for same-sex couples. Today, in a press conference, he broke his normal policy of not openly speculating on whether he would veto a bill or not and told assembled reporters, "Because I believe that by removing any uncertainty from my decision we can move more quickly beyond this debate, I am announcing I intend to veto this legislation when it reaches my desk."

Here is what I wrote the governor:
Every time a prominent Republican votes to restrict the rights of an entire class of people, as you seem poised to do with gay marriage rights, the progressive thinking voters of this country register and contribute to the Democratic party in droves...so as a Gay Democrat I thank you for your "support". The Republican party is dying, figuratively AND literally, and I will be so happy to tramp down the dirt on the grave...

I wrote a note to the VT Governor asking him to vote in favor of same-sex marriages.

For those of you who don't know him.... meet James Neely, one of the bravest young men you will ever meet. Watch this video, at least his beginning testimony. The questions are hard to hear.

Without a legal marriage certificate, GLBT Americans are denied over 1,000 rights afforded to straight Americans. That is unfair, unjust, and un-American.

Because I believe my GLBT brothers and sisters deserve equal protection under the law!
