Congress

Require honesty in our news broadcasts and political advertisements

    1. Petition by

      Thomas Moore

      Philadelphia, PA

Lies and half truths are polluting our collective mind and preventing us from making wise decisions concerning our own as well as our countries future. This is unacceptable. News commentators sit quietly by while the person they are interviewing speaks a know falsehood and the public is left to believe it is therefor truth. Likewise with political ads that twist the truth to make things seem a certain way when in fact what is being said is not reality but a distortion and therefor a falsehood. What are lies but distortions of truth. All of this leaves us making poor choices for ourselves, our country and our planet. Just as yelling fire in a crowded theater is not protected speech, neither should speech which deceives the public be condoned or protected. Obviously exceptions would have to be made for "national security".
Honesty can be determined by Giving the available information to a grand jury and seeing if they feel what was said represents the truth.

The USA is the land of opportunity. I believe Occupy seeks opportunity denied by Corporations as Teddy Roosevelt warned they would if allowed the power permitted by congress.

Only with accurate information can we have honest conversations on what is the best path for our country to take. Lies and deceptions have led us to where we are now, adrift.

Only with accurate information can we have an honest conversation to determine the best course our country should take. Making decisions based on lies and half truths has led us to where we are now: adrift.
