Chairman Tom Wheeler (a venture capitalist who was formerly a lobbyist at the top of cable and wireless industries, leading the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) and Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA)) and the FCC has a plan that would enable Internet service providers to charge extra fees to companies like Google and Netflix for preferential treatment. Under these rules, giants like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon would be able to create a two-tiered Internet, with fast lanes for those who can afford it and dirt roads for the rest of us. These companies would have the power to pick winners and losers online and discriminate against online content and applications. And no one would be able to do anything about it.

As a tech worker, I use the Internet daily to transfer files both big and small. If the ISP's are allowed to cut bandwidth on a whim, rather than giving the highest possible speeds it could hurt not only myself but customers. The Internet should be open and untouched as far as cutting bandwidth. You should get what you pay for and the faster, the better.
