Congress: Approve $5.1 Billion in Funding for LIHEAP in FY 2013

    1. Petition by

      National Fuel Funds Network

President Obama has proposed reducing funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program to $3.020 billion for FY 2013.  This amount is more than $400 million less than the current funding level and would be devastating to the program and the people it serves.

Last year more than 8 million households received energy assistance grants from LIHEAP to help them pay their home energy bills. With one out of every seven Americans living at the poverty level and 14 million unemployed, maintaining adequate funding for this vital safety net program is imperative.

I urge you to provide $5.1 billion for LIHEAP for FY 2013.

A nation as proud as the United States of America cannot afford to not take care of it's senior population. It's a disgrace to read of people freezing to death for lack of fuel to heat their homes in the winter or dying from heat exposure during the summer. We are charged to take care of the poor, especially our seniors.

I am signing because we are battling cancer in our household and we need any help we can get, especially this winter coming up.

because the average American is continually being taxed with no recourse. The utilities are going up at an unprecedented rate. We average Americans struggle to pay these bills because we need our utilities. It would wonderful if the light bill and the gas bill would not be allowed to raise their rates for the next ten (10) years. We need help.......
