Following public outcry, the CM of Madhya Pradesh has promised to compensate the oustees of Omkareshwar dam and has set up a grievance redressal committee to listen to people's demands. This, however, is a partial victory as protests are still continuing at IndiraSagar dam in Harda district.
Illegal Move By MP Govt.
The water level in Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dams in the Narmada Valley has been illegally raised causing submergence of large areas of land. The displaced have not been rehabilitated and resettled as per rehabilitation policy.
After many pleas and protests to the government to get fair compensation and rehabilitation, they have been standing in chin-deep water of the omkareshwar dam for 13 days now. The jal-satyagrahies have developed blisters all over their body and their condition is getting worse everyday.
The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh has turned a deaf ear to this crisis.
Supreme Court Orders Not Followed
Although the Supreme Court has clearly ordered that these oustees have to be rehabilitated 6 months before submergence, thousands of families who are yet to be rehabilitated are now being submerged in complete violation of Supreme Court and High Court orders.
The government has started raising the water level of the Indira Sagar Dam beyond 260 meters in violation of the Supreme court and High court orders.
The oustees of the Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dam in the Narmada valley in Madhya Pradesh need your support.
Their demands are-
1. Compensate and rehabilitate whose lands have been submerged by the dam
2. The government immediately intervene to address the grievances of people in Khandwa
3. Reduce the water level in Omkareshwar and Indira Sagar dam which has already submerged hundreds of acres of agricultural land and villages.
Thank you for your support.
