Support PS3 to be a Zone Plus Choice School

The Department of Education (DoE) has proposed new school zone lines which would split the PS3/PS41 shared zone, and add a new school on West 17th and Sixth Avenue slated to open in 2014. The P.S.3 SLT has looked at the maps provided by the DoE, and the SLT has concluded that we can support the zoning, as long as P.S.3 is designated a ZONE PLUS CHOICE SCHOOL. This would mean that families who are out of zone could still apply to P.S.3, once the needs of families within the zone had been met. The zone plus choice option would enable P.S.3 to retain an arts-based curriculum, with excellent academics, as well as a parent body that would support this curriculum. Please sign this petition to the Community Education Council District 2 (CECD2) in support of making PS3 a ZONE PLUS CHOICE school.
Thank you!

I am so relieved that my son will attend ps 3 in fall 2013 - just under the wire of re-zoning of 2014 which would force us to attend ps41...I dislike the atmosphere of exclusivity that 41 cultivates...I believe it is antithetical to public education and do not wish to join its community for this reason. I want others who feel as I do to have the choice to apply for ps3.

we've came to PS.3 for it's art, open community, and parent participation, it's critical to keep it that way!
