Save our Lifeguards!

    1. Petition by

BEACH EDUCATION ADVOCATES FOR CULTURE HEALTH ENVIRONMENT SAFETY

This is a request not to cut any funds for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Ocean Lifeguards in the 2012 Miami Dade County Budget and maintain the great level of public safety on the beach.

We, the Miami Dade County residents and visitors feel that the Ocean Rescue Bureau is already understaffed. With that being said these lifeguards go above and beyond to provide an excellent service that keeps us safe and allows us to have a fun worry free experience at the beach with our friends and family. If this Staff becomes any shorter it would be a great risk for all of us and specifically to children, the elderly, those with disabilities, weak swimmers and visitors whom aren’t accustomed to the hazards of South Florida beaches

Cutting funding that may affect the safety of beach goers is not a wise decision in any way. We need to protect all beaches including the nudist beaches. I'm a nudist who enjoys visiting nude beaches when I can and would be less inclined to do so if there were no life guards present.

We frequently visit Miami area and while there we always visit Haulover Nude Beach. This time we are visitng to go on a nude cruise out of Ft. Lauerdale in late Oct 2011. We plan to say at Daddy-O's Hotel for 3-5 nights and visit Haulover during that time. the lifeguards make us feel safe. If it wasn't for the nude beach we would just stay in Lauderdale closer to the port and enjoy their restaurants and ambience. Our last trip was in Feb 2011. We stayed at the Newport that time. Cruise left from Miami and we could have stayed closer to the port that time too. We love Haulover Nude Beach and all its amenities. Please protect them for the safety of the tourists like my husband and I. The reasons we come early for the cruise involve being able to practice our nudist lifestyle safely in a protected environment. Please support the Beach...if only for the dollars it brings in to Miami-Dade County. We will spend several hundred dollars on hotels, meals, gas & souvenirs before leaving town on the cruise.
