Comcast: Broadcast Al Jazeera English Now!

    1. Petition by

      Rethink Press

We believe that democracies need information to flourish. In light of critical events unfolding across North Africa and the Middle East, tsunamis and nuclear crisis ravaging Japan, and riots in the streets of London, now--more than ever--we Americans demand to know what's going on around us, both at home and abroad.

Al Jazeera English (AJE) is an internationally acclaimed news network that broadcasts to over 250 million households in 120 countries on 6 continents, yet it is available in only 5 places in the entire U.S. (Washington, DC; Burlington, VT; Bristol County, RI: Toledo, OH; and New York City, NY).

Right now, Comcast subscribers in Washington, D.C. have full cable access to the channel. Their customers in other regions, however, don't. This needs to change. As one of the largest cable providers in the U.S., it is time for Comcast Cable to get with the program and provide its customers with full cable access to Al Jazeera English.

Please sign the petition today and help bring access to this valuable resources to all Americans. Help us spread the word by sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. Retweet us @demandaje using #iwantmyaje.

As a 49 yr old American, whose watched tv news religiously since I was 15 yrs old, I have watched the American Mass Media News Industry become unreliable in their bias-self-serving reporting. Which is why I watch news organizations like Al Jazeera News- English. Comcast should be ashamed! I won't use their service

ComCast is practicing information control and violating its role of informing the public. Let al Jazerra continue to present the facts and allow Link Network to present the truth. Toss Fox News into the dustbin.

Comcast, Charter, Scripts, Dish Network, Direct TV, AND ALL OTHER CABLE AND SAT providers ONLY CARRY FOX [so-called] NEWS and CNN on their lower tier service packages. Fox programming offers hours of strong, professional, political propaganda daily. They do not offer channels with any alternative viewpoints or opinions such as MSNBC, AJE, or C-SPAN II, which includes no commentary, to the highly politicized FOX channel that claims to be "fair and balanced." In communities that have a low percentage of households able to afford the more expensive tiers, the effect of being subjected to and influenced only by the FOX channel, which is all they get, is evident in the citizens' opinions, and attitudes towards the other party. CNN is no match for FOX which is devoted to one political party and getting that party's candidates elected. Who at all the TV providers' central command decided to feed FOX's programming to their captive audiences to the exclusion of all others such as AJE which has received positive praise from diverse quarters? How can this be permitted to continue?

I use Direct TV and I hope they adopt the same ideas this petition expresses. Do so before them, though, and show your support for international news broadcasting.
