Teenagers, almost every month of the academic year, have to take standardized testing either in the form of ACT or SAT. These scores are a massive factor on whether a person will get into a college or not, it plans their fate. Should some people be allowed an unfair advantage?
People who feel pressure from these tests get nervous and become self-diagnosed with diseases consequently receiving extra time on these tests. People with conditions such as ADD or ADHD should not be allowed this unfair advantage of extra time. The entire point of the standardized testing is to test you in a timed manner. If people have this extra time it defeats the point of having to be timed at all. The people may claim they have short attention spans or that they get easily distracted; however, many people are the same way and cannot stay focused for a long amount of time. This is a worldwide phenomenon, nothing special. This is why the standardized testing programs need to stick to their roots of a strict timed testing situation. And give a separated test to the people who claim they needed special circumstances!
People do not get extra time in life. If a boss in asks you to make reports for a project by the next friday, he doesn't mean monday. This handicap that people recieve on test sets them up for hard falls in life when they realize they cannot receive more time than others.
Some people go as far as to pay their way to extra time. If a person pays a certain amount of money in testing of course they are going to recieve it. Where I used to live, I had a friend who took the tests because he felt flustered and pressure from the idea that this test would decide his college career. He told his mom that he couldn't think that he could do it, so the mom paid for him to do the test and he purposefully bombed it and made himself look stupid. He ended up getting the extra time and did better than me. I had the same pressure, but not the same money. He recieved an unfair advantage.
IT IS NOT FAIR FOR SOME TO HAVE EXTRA TIME AND OTHER TO NOT!
