Pete Seeger's ideals are the ones that make us proud to be Americans. #ReTweet4Pete

Billboard Magazine: A Petition For a Pete Seeger Memorial on the National Mall  (@billboardbiz)

His efforts through his music and through the Clearwater Foundation brought people together and helped to educate over 20,000 New York City kids each year about the Hudson River, the environment and treating each other with respect.

Seeger's music has helped millions understand the world better and stress peaceful resolution. Songs that he popularized and/or wrote include "We Shall Overcome," "Turn! Turn! Turn! (to Everything There Is a Season)," "Where Have All The Flowers Gone," and "If I Had A Hammer" stood strong for the American Civil Rights Movement, his words have become rallying cries for generations fighting for equality in a peaceful way.

This memorial will help make sure that other generations know how important Pete Seeger's messages continue to be to our country.

Camp led by Pete Seeger's family underway

About 100 young people are attending Camp Killooleet in the heart of the Green Mountains this summer. The camp is so busy, though, that it feels like hundreds and hundreds of children fill its 300 acres.

Vanaver Caravan, a dance troupe backed by a folky string band, added a verse about income inequality and the Occupy movement to "Union Maid." The bluesman Guy Davis updated Lead Belly's "Midnight Special" with references to Dick Cheney and Guantánamo.

(But, Alas, Not the Honorees, Pete and Toshi Seeger) Are you a bit like me, in wondering what it would have been like to have been there at something "first-ever?" You know, actually being in the audience at Woodstock. Or, the very first jazz festivals at Monterey and New Orleans.

Old Crow Medicine Show's Ketch Secor Remembers Pete Seeger

In 2005, the Clearwater Festival went on in spite of a cold, driving rain. My band, Old Crow Medicine Show, played our set, then cheered from the side stage while Pete Seeger sang with a chorus of schoolchildren. Later that day, I joined in with Pete's grandson, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, and his rock band.

Sing Out: A Concert Celebration Of Pete Seeger

Pete Seeger was a lanky banjo player who showed up at every rally, every singalong, every town meeting, for as long as anyone could remember. He came singing songs of dissent; songs that helped to find the courage to change. Legions of these songs now echo down through decades of strife and protest.
