Clean up the Indian Olympics Association #cleanIOA

    1. Petition by

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) because of government interference putting a bar on India's  Olympic participation. This is because the IOA failed to conduct the elections in accordance to the IOC’s norms. This could potentially kill the olympic dream of thousands of young athletes who are preparing for the upcoming Olympics.

All of these does not come as a surprise as we are aware of the rampant corruption within the Indian Olympics Association (IOA). We have all seen that despite the evidence against Suresh Kalmadi, Lalit Bhanot and others, the Indian Government and the IOA have refused to clean up it's act.

Mismanagement in Indian Sports:
Sports in India has become a victim of political games that that corrupt politicians play. As a result, there is large-scale mismanagement, nepotism and corruption in Indian sports. The end result is obvious in our performance at the Olympic Games and other international championships.

I believe that in the interest of sports in India, we need sports people to run the IOA instead of politicians. Sports people know what is required and will keep the interest of Sports above their personal interests.

This decision by the IOC is a huge embarrassment to our country and a major blow to our young athletes who may never be able to participate in any of the major International games including the Olympic Games under the Indian flag for no fault of theirs unless we do something about it. Join me in demanding a clean up of the IOA.

Clean Sports India has been working towards cleaning up sports in India since the last two  years and I am part of this movement.  I think this is a golden opportunity for the Sports Minister to step in and clean up the way in which Indian Sports is managed.

I am asking the Sports Minister Jitendra Singh to
1. Derecognise the current IOA
2. Appoint an adhoc committee of eminent sports personalities
3. Conduct free and fair elections for the association

Sign my petition to disband the IOA and reconstitute it with people who understand sports and truly want to develop the sporting talent of our nation.

This is also an appeal to all political parties to not allow their party men run the business of sports as they are elected representatives who need to work for its people and not cause such huge embarrassment to India’s name. It is time for Politicians who know nothing about Sports to leave the management of sports to professionals and sportsmen.

IOA, as per its original form, was just a post box between various national federations and the IOC. But it started poking its nose in first Ind. Hockey Federation's affairs in the 1970s and, emboldened by this step, starting trying to browbeat all federations barring BCCI which was and is totally independent. Kalmadi wanted to take over hockey and managed to work his way in de-stablising the age-old IHF when the latter's functioning left a lot to be desired. There is a big need for IOA's constitution to be completely overhauled.
