From Petition Organizer: Tonight marks a monumental step forward for cycling and walking in Vancouver! Council has just passed proposal to make cycling & walking safer along Point Grey Road - York between Jericho and Burrard Bridge. Transcript: http://ow.ly/nrErH Motion & Amendments: http://ow.ly/nrCqf

Your support is urgently needed to make Point Grey Cornwall safer for people of all ages and abilities.  If you want to live in a City where people can safely choose sustainable modes of transportation, a place where everyday people can cycle & walk comfortably and without fear, then please sign this petition to show your support for safety improvements along Point Grey Cornwall.

The volume and speed of vehicles travelling along this corridor has long created unsafe conditions for residents and visitors to the area, particularly those who walk along narrow sidewalks, cross at dangerous intersections and cycle in traffic.

The City has undertaken EXTENSIVE studies and consultations to create a family-friendly walking and cycling route that will allow more people to choose sustainable modes of transportation. They've worked hard to ensure that traffic and parking changes are manageable and even adapted their proposals to balance the needs of all road users.

The City is putting forward real solutions to help make Vancouver a safer, more sustainable and liveable place.  Show your support for these important changes today!

Bike Debate: Less drama for Round 2 with most speakers in favour of proposed changes

The second night of a public hearing about a proposed bike lane along Point Grey Road saw a lower turnout Thursday and much less drama, but no less the amount of enthusiasm from those in attendance. The Point Grey-Cornwall corridor project seeks to close up the bike lane gap between Burrard Street Bridge and Jericho Beach.

I'd like to see less gas-consuming vehicles and more sustainable transportation. We must take action now as our collective futures are in peril.

I work at UBC Forestry and Bike from North Vancouver via the Sea Bus everyday rain or shine. I'm almost 60 and thriving. I've been riding a bike for more than 40 years.

From the SeaBus I take Burrard bike lane via Burrard Bridge to Cornwall then Point Grey to the beaches and then up North West Marine Drive to my destination, UBC. Point Grey Road has signs, and a couple of radar signs, indicating the speed limit is 30KM/hr -- however 9 times out of 10 these signs are ignored by gas vehicles every day. I'm not exaggerating. ... and they're not there for the view. As such it is a volatile and unsafe ride through Cornwall and Point Grey.

I'm for change rather than ruin... it's delusional to not see the imminent catastrophe of our oil-based addiction. Change is the way to go ...

I personally was nearly the victim of a barely avoidable accident caused by a careless bus operator who did not respect the painted cycling lane on Cornwall near Cypress. Safe, protected cycling routes are badly needed for all ages along this corridor.
