Make an exception to the BC Hydro Upgrade Mandate and give SBC Restaurant Ltd. a Business License so they can operate.

    1. Petition by

      SBC Restaurant

      Vancouver, Canada

SBC Restaurant is a progressive business idea for the Down Town East Side which has measurable positive impacts for the neighborhood and City at large.

SBC provides a safe place to go on the 100 Block of East Hastings (near Main). It puts people from different backgrounds in touch with one another. SBC makes people happy.

SBC needs to be able to operate at full capacity, offering healthy food and athletic  and creative outlets through skateboarding, music and art. Vancouver needs a place like SBC and the owners Malcolm Hassin and Andrew Turner should not be forced to endure the immediate costs of an upgrade being demanded by BC Hydro($30 000). Also, SBC should be given a business license for a period of 3.5 years (the remainder of their lease befor renewal) in order to have a chance to succeed and pay for the upgrade. The two young entrepreneurs have overcome many great odds to have brought their project as far as they have.

Health is not a simple concept: there are many factors involved. That this place remains open is important to ensure a safe place for people, a place of creativity and acceptance. SBC has the potential to be a space of community and connection, which serves to enhance emotional and mental health.

skateboarding just in general is and I wanna give someone an opportunity to run something skater owned. And most restaurants aren't like that.

      Thanks,

Sometimes we need to make exceptions to the rules.
