Despite Sloat Avenue having crosswalks, drivers often speed and fail to yield to pedestrians or other drivers. Many pedestrians and drivers have been injured or killed due to reckless drivers. Early March of 2013, a seventeen-year-old girl's life was taken while walking home. In November of 2011, three were injured as another car crashed into them, and another person was killed in January of 2009. Drivers on Sloat tend to go over the speed limit, and stop signs or additional traffic lights would reduce the amount of time drivers spend at high speeds.

To:
City of SF, SF Municipal Transportation Agency,
Norman Yee of District 7
Please have a stop sign or traffic light installed on Vale Ave and Sloat Blvd.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

On Thursday, April 4, Supervisor Norman Yee will be holding a Pedestrian Safety Hearing starting at 10 AM at City Hall in Room 263.

This is our chance for residents to speak up about our experiences with dangerous streets such as Sloat, and call for improvements to make the streets safer.

It would be very powerful to have our voices heard, please come if you can!

I have 5 children, ages 16 to 8, who cannot cross Sloat to play in Stern Grove due to the high speed of traffic on Sloat. In addition, crossing Ocean to get to Rolph Nicol park is hard as cars speed and overtake each other. Sloat and Ocean simply need stop signs at most intersections to encourage walking, discourage driving, and allow residents to enjoy the amenities of Merced Manor.

Sloat feels much more like a highway than a residential street, even though it crosses a 85% residential area.
