Allow The Rockford to keep their signs

As a small business in the bustling Glenwood South district, we have witnessed tons of growth and expansion in the area. Despite all of this new foot traffic, our upstairs location makes it hard for people to find our business. We have been a staple in the community for 20 years and in order to keep up with the newer/larger businesses, we needed better visibility. While we feel the hand-painted signs are indicative of The Rockford "charm", we also feel that the historic design of the signs adds a feeling of nostalgia to the Glenwood South street-scape.

The City of Raleigh may make us remove the signs based on an ordinance that does not take our unique location into consideration. We are asking the city for a variance that would allow us to keep our signs and we would love your support.

If you would like to show your public support for The Rockford keeping the hand-painted signs, please sign our petition!

The Rockford sign hearing has been moved to July 14, 2014. We thank everyone for their support and nice words. Please continue to spread the word and keep those signatures coming! Thanks everyone!

Thanks to everyone for your continued support as we wait to find out the fate of our signs! As you may know, the City Council has appointed a Sign Task Force to review the current sign regulations. The City of Raleigh has now agreed to delay their decision about our signs until the task force makes its recommendations to City Council. The task force meetings are open to the public and you can find more information at www.raleighnc.gov/home/news/content/CorNews/Articles/SignTaskForce.html.

We are hopeful that the City Council's decision will favor us keeping our signs, but we will have to wait and see. We will keep everyone posted with any new developments.

Thank you all again for your support!

I have always thought that The Rockford (one of my favorite restaurants) needed more visibility. These new painted signs are tasteful and look like Raleigh. Let them stay!

I really think there has to be a better solution to the REAL issue than this.

As a retail store and restaurant owner, I believe it is important for small businesses to be allowed to tastefully display signage directing customers to their place of business. The signage at The Rockford blends with the design and period of the building and does not detract from the surrounding streetscape.

Tasteful, hand painted signs on buildings are unique and effective ways that small business owners can gain attention for their business in a cost effective way. Taking away this privilege means that overhead costs would go up, excluding many residents from being able to afford to operate their own business.

It's not Unappealing to the eye and has been that way without distraction. Why change????
