City of Detroit: Ace & Detroit Animal Control

Updated Ace: Change Animal Welfare Law

"Ace" the dog. The emaciated animal was found Nov. 4 near an Ace Hardware store in Detroit. He was picked up by Detroit Animal Control. Even though several rescue groups stepped forward to save Ace Detroit Animal Control policy did not allow the release of Pitt Bulls.  Even with the public outcry and a court order to prevent any action Detroit Animal control destroyed Ace on Thursday Nov 10.

Please sign the following petition for Ace's Law to require the release of animals that groups are able to take and end breed specific restrictions.

If there are people who are willing to look after this dog then he should be handed over to them.... killing him for being a pit bull is discrimination... if we don't accept discrimination for humans why should we accept it for animals?

Ace deserves a chance to live. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.

This is complete and total BS. If these people really wanted to lower the bite incidence in the city/state they would be focusing on people not dogs. Last I check the number one breed involved in bites was the Labrador Retriever. Pit bulls were breed to have no human aggression at all. Anyone who has seen or knows anything about dog fighting would know that, since the owners of the dog have to get in the ring and pull the dogs apart at the end of each round any animal that shows any aggression was destroyed. So the reason they give for destroying these wonderful animals is total BS. I work for a vet and I would much rather deal with a pitty than some of the other breeds especially the small fluffy yappy one named cookie etc they are the dangerous ones. I WAS BITTEN BY A POODLE CAN WE BAN THEM TOO?!

I am also boycotting any and all states with BSL so Michigan, Ohio, and Florida will never get any of my tourist dollars you have to hit them where it hurts.

I find it very amusing that Ohio passed a state wide ban on APBT but you can still buy and own a lion, tiger, bear, or other large wild animal because that makes since. We should be more afraid of the 50 pound dog than the 500 pound tiger way to go for intelligence Ohio.

Why on earth would Detroit GIVE this dog BACK to its owners???!!!! He didn't get like this on his own! So let him suffer FIVE more days to GIVE HIM BACK to the people that didn't care for him in the first place! oooh that makes PERFECT SENSE!
