City of Austin: Ban all styrofoam in the city of Austin

      AUSTIN, TX

Polystyrene, commonly known as styrofoam, is dangerous to human health and detrimental to our planet. Production of polystyrene releases over 75 poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere, while the Department of Labor suggests limiting workers' exposure to the substance. Other cities have banned styrofoam. Why can't we?

To:
City of Austin, Texas
Please ban all polystyrene products in the city of Austin. They are harmful to consumers, producers, and the environment. Keep our city green!

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Styrofoam is really harmful and I don't want it in my water supply.

I went on a park cleanup yesterday and Styrofoam was everywhere. It breaks down easily into small pieces which are hard to collect. Besides that, they are one of the hardest plastics to recycle (even if they are collected they are mostly sent overseas and burnt).

There are so many great alternatives that local stores and restaurants are already using, let's do it!
