Church of England? Not in our name
  • Petitioning The Archbishops of Canterbury and York and the House of Bishops

This petition will be delivered to:

The Archbishops of Canterbury and York and the House of Bishops

Church of England? Not in our name

Same sex marriage does not undermine heterosexual marriage; all forms of committed relationship enhance and strengthen society.
The Church's formal rejection of gay marriage::-
* lacks the compassion of Jesus for all made in the image of God
* fosters an unjust and continuing discrimination (and in some cases abuse) of lgbt people in the name of Christ
*is in thrall to literal-minded understandings of scripture and tradition and lacks the energy and moral courage of Jesus who challenged unjust social structures and traditions
* further undermines the national credibility and relevance of the Church of England

In the last few days signatures have slowed a little. Let's do all we can to encourage those who haven't signed to do so.

We shall be presenting the petition to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York around 1.00pm on Saturday 7th July at the General Synod session at York University. Let's try to build a big turnout. We shall meet at 11.30am outside the West door of York Minster and then walk out to the University, a distance of about 2 miles to present the petition. Please meet us at the Minster or come directly to the Central Hall at York University for 1.00pm

      in just under one week!

A fantastic result which shows the strength of feeling and that the Church of England doe not speak in the name of so many people in the Church on the issue of marriage equality.

To honour my promise I am planning to walk to York during week beginning 1st July to present the petition to the Archbishops at General Synod on Saturday morning 7th July. Let's try and have a big turn out on this important occasion.

I will let you know the timetable for the week a son as I have details.

Meanwhile - keep the signatures coming!!

Enduring love is so badly needed in our society. Marriage cements that enduring love through witness and grace for both heterosexual and homosexual couples. Why sanction what has been blessed by the God of love?
