Prevent Closure

Captain Shaw's CE Primary School and community hall provides small class sizes. The school gives great individual attention for pupils hence the opportunity for individualised learning.
Teachers know pupils well and can act early to prevent problems arising. Children interact with all ages in a natural manner, not just in their year group. Children of all ages mix together going on school trips and taking part in plays. This helps optimise their learning and communication skills - which students would not normally get from a large school

The school is an integral part of the community. Children who learn from the community have a vast opportunity to interact and learn from different aspects of village life from the church, chapel, shop, butchers, the Byre and Abbeyfield. Having the school in the village also lets a lot of pupils walk to school so they become more road aware, cuts down on transport costs and is also kinder to the environment!

Small schools are very special places where all children achieve their best because they are individuals and recognised by all the school community as such, with their own individual talents and needs. My small school is being closed and who will count the costs?

I taught at the school from 1995 - 2000. We prevented the school from closing then. It would be a shame if it were to close now.

I don't believe any school should be closed just because pupil numbers are low right now. If the village is expanding and more pupils are expected to come through then the school should be kept open.

My daughters(now 25 nd 28) had many friends at Captains Shaws and went to lots of fairs and functions there. The school is part of the community drawing in all generations.
