Put up a guard rail at the corner of Surfside Boulevard/Beach Parkway West

Alexie Krill, my roommate, died in a car accident here early Saturday morning (September 22, 2012). She was 24 years old. This is not the first death in this location and there have been multiple accidents in the last few years. Seven years ago Phillip Kenney died at the same location due to a car crash. He was 21 years old. His mother asked for a guard rail to be put up in 2006, but the committee said no. How many people have to die before the committee will believe we need a guard rail? Alexie Krill needed that guard rail and the committee let her down. Lets not let this happen again. Please sign this petition so the Cape Coral Transportation Advisory Committee will understand that this is an issue many people are passionate about.

Bruce Krill, father of victim Alexie Krill, and I grew up together and are very good friends. I am a retired State Trooper from the State of Ohio. From the information that I have read, it seems that a guardrail is way overdue at the location of these fatal and non-fatal crashes. I get disgusted when villages, cities, or whatever local government exits provides luxuries for other reasons, perhaps the tourist trade rather than a simple guardrail that, in all probability, would have saved lives. With all due respect, you folks making your decisions from a sterile palace, should be required to perform one of the most difficult duties of a law enforcement officer. That would be to go to the house of someone's child that has been killed in a fatal traffic crash. You don't know how the victim's loved ones are going to react. I have had people vomit on me, faint, fall into my arms, fall down and get injured themselves, get attacked, etc. Do you get my point. All of this could have been avoided if a guardrail had been put in place. I don't know how you folks spend your $$$ down there, but it seems to me after at least 2 fatal crashes involving young folks in there early to mid twenties and countless other crashes at the same scene, a guardrail should be erected before another dollar is spent on anything that would be considered frivolous when compared to the lives of people who would benefit from the requested guardrail. Please do the right thing for your citizens.

      Respectfully Submitted,

      Trooper Timothy E. Stockman

      Ohio State Highway Patrol (ret.)
