After reaching more than 1500 signatures (which means 1500 emails to the authorities) and a piece written in the Jakarta Globe, Airport authorities finally told the store to stop selling shark fins in the airport. Article:

They catch them, cut of their fins, throw them back into the ocean, and let them suffer on the seabed until they die in hours, even days. That is the world of shark finning. Why? So we can have our soup.

I love Indonesia, I take my kids there all the time. We love the people, the nature and the amazing biodiversity.

But imagine our surprise when on our way home in the international airport seeing this horrible shop for everyone in the world to see. How can I even explain this to my children?

Is this what the government wants as a last impression for tourists in this country?

Shark finning is not only cruel to the shark, but its also a serious issue for the stability of the ecosystem. Sharks are at the top of the food chain, and if killings continue to go at this rate, their extinction will cause dozens if not hundreds species to be extinct too.

As soup, it is also highly toxic as it deposits a lot of mercury.

This shop is an unfair representation of this beautiful country. Help me close it down.

As pointed out on (where they have a similar photo), this is very bad publicity for Indonesian tourism. There is a great deal of eco-tourism in Indonesia, and it leaves a very poor impression on divers to walk past this stand. I'm going to do so again this weekend, and I will aim to stop in on the shop and let them know what I think about this!
