After 10 years of assisting young people at work, the Young Worker's Advisory Service (YWAS) has been shut down by the new Campbell Newman State Goverment. The telephone information line is now closed and all school talks have been cancelled.
This decision leaves young people in Queensland who are not union members with no one to turn to when they experience unfairness and discrimination at work. Young people will no longer have access to this organisation for information, advice or advocacy when they face unfair dismissal, under-payment of wages or sexual harassment in the workplace. Sign this petition to the Federal Government to step in and give young people back this important safety-net!
Stayed tuned for our campaign - "Get on the Bus" for your rights at work. In the meantime if you are under 25 years old and have experienced problems in your workplace you can email us your story about that issue (keep it to 200 words), and each time a "bus load" of young people's stories is full, we will, with your permission sent to the relevant policy makers and politicians to raise the profile of young people's problems at work and the need for proper services to assist them. We have great give away's for the first 20 stories .... so GET ON THE BUS - FOR YOUR RIGHTS AT WORK and email firstname.lastname@example.org.
