We support The Anti-Bullying and Harassment Act of 2013.
We are your present and our future.
Although many of us are not yet old enough to vote, we have BIG VOICES and we are using them now.
We also have EYES that have watched many of our peers end their lives.
We have EARS that have listened to our loved ones be degraded and put down.
And we have HEARTS that are broken because we all know someone who has been bullied. For many of us, it’s “me.” It’s happening right now.
We are standing together to ask you to HELP protect us.
We stand together to ask our government, coaches, teachers, school administrators, local law enforcement and families to PROTECT us from bullies.
Remember if we STOP bullying we SAVE LIVES.
What is The Anti-Bullying and Harassment Act of 2013 - Amends the Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act to require: (1) states to use grants for safe and drug-free schools to collect and report information on the incidence of bullying and harassment, and (2) local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools to use subgrants to prevent and respond to incidents of bullying and harassment. Requires such LEAs or schools to: (1) notify parents and students annually of conduct prohibited in their school discipline policies, that now must include bullying and harassment; and (2) establish complaint procedures for students and parents to register complaints regarding such conduct. Includes bullying and harassment within the Act's definition of violence.
The original Anti-Bullying and Harassment Act was introduced to Congress in 2011 by US Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill as House Bill 975. Although the bill would end bullying-both "live" and "cyber" it "died in committee" last spring because it was believed that "no one cared about it."
Representing all mothers of children who had been bullied, Lisa D. Welsh met Congressman Davis on Aug. 2, 2013 and told him of the great many who care about bully prevention. The Congressman said he would reconsider introducing the bill if there was more support.
Will you help us do that?
