Build a Memorial Park in Memory of Billy Schettino

On March 14, 2012, Billy Schettino, a 18 year old from Blue Point, NY was struck and killed by a Suffolk County sheriff’s vehicle on the Long Island Expressway. In his memory, his family and friends are looking to build a memorial park at an abandoned lot on Park Street in Blue Point, NY. This lot is where Billy and all his friends used to hang out and skate. This lot was a park at one time, then a Laundromat business, which was responsible for contaminating the land. The Town of Brookhaven has ignored this land and has left it wasting away for over 20 years. If we are given the land, we pledge to clean up the property and build a safe and clean park that the entire community can enjoy.
We, the friends and family of Billy Schettino, ask that you please sign this petition so that we can convince the Suffolk County and Town of Brookhaven governments to donate this land to our project and show them that the community supports us. If we can obtain the land, we can create a safe and clean place for kids to hang out where Billy’s memory will live on forever.

I have always wondered why they have let that property sit there unused and neglected. What a fabulous way to remember a life taken so young. Having a place that kids can do something they enjoy and pay tribute to this young man at the same time can only be considered a positive.

R.I.P. Billy. I knew your name and face, but not your story. I wish I could have known you better. Lets take a stand, I hope justice is served. <3

because my Ant Theresa Magnoli told me about this story and I felt so bad, and so angry because the police supposes to help you to live and not to die. At least tell the truth

I grew up on Park Street and also worked at Blue Point Laundry and was happy to see it bulldozed and now it is time for the property to once again bring someone happiness and not a reminder of people toiling at a sweat shop that only made the owners a happy life.......

The account of Billy's sudden passing (("Mom, I'm scared) hit me like a sword in my heart, words which I feel will forever echo in your heart.

What a kind, loving person was he...bringing home those in need with no questions asked by an understanding mom and dad.

Bill and you have been in my personal

prayers as well of those of our parish families at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, East Hampton and Trinity Episcopal Church in Vero Beach, Florida.

The Lord's love and mine, Fr. Alan J. Edmiston
