Whales have a right to live on this planet just as much as we do; they are a species, one of our distant relations. They have done nothing to hurt us yet we take their lives. It is not right, it is not just. Please sign this petition if you stand up for the right to live.

It is imperative for you to put pressure on the Japanese Government to end the annual whale hunt which involves many whales being killed. Now, whales are getting more and more at risk ; the chance that they will remain on our planet for years to come is getting slimmer by the day. You cannot let these animals be slaughtered, it is barbaric. Please, stop this horrific killing.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

I was looking through my email and one came up from 'The White House'. It was an official email from Barack Obama. I know that it is official because it was directly from the 'White House'. He had positive comments to say and also stated that it is important to raise this issue.

In addition to the scientific, moral and ethical reasons that all suggest the slaughter of whales is is indefensible, I believe we need to stress to our Japanese friends that their own national self-interest is best served by ending these actions. Japan enjoys the highest reputation as a nation that is a stalwart member of the UN, a generous contributor to International Aid and key member of the international family of democratic nations. Japan enjoys the highest international respect for her art, literature and wider culture - yet all this is disproportionately compromised by the bad publicity generated through the whaling action, that is so widely condemned by the international community. Any economic value of the activity could easiy be off-set by the use of alternative eco-friendly energy supply and local fishing communities would derive far greater economic benefit through developing whale watching tourist activity rather than hunting.
