How many of us remember the fun times we experienced at Old Sydney Town, Somersby on the NSW Central Coast. Many a school excursion was enjoyed by us and our children. Many children are missing out on this phenomenal experience in their young lives. It is so important for our children to discover History through practical fun and not just from the History books. As our country becomes more multi-cultural, showing some of the early European history and the foundations that Australia was built on is becoming more and more important. Old Sydney Town was a fantastic place to take relatives who visited from overseas. We would really like to see it re-opened, or perhaps our local government could look at providing another viable site where we can all enjoy the wonders of our past history and share it with the many visitors who grace this beautiful area. If planned properly, this would create hundreds of local jobs directly, while bringing business to other local tourist attractions, venues and businesses. I have great memories of going here as a child and believe my son would benefit from it being open again, other children would also benefit from learning of early colonial history. Would be a great benefit to the coast tourism wise, could add other displays there etc to make this viable again.
