Don't support Evelyn Lozada's spinoff show "EV And OCHO" on VH1

Evelyn Lozada is a bully. The violence on "Basketball Wives" is horrible and disgraceful. Physical assaults, threats, verbal abuse, and harassment. VH1 is rewarding this behavior by giving Evelyn a spinoff. Don't reward negative behavior.

This is not a hate petition against Eveyln Lozada. We simply will not support violence. It hurts to see violence amongst women on television for entertainment purposes. It is not ok for women to hit each other on TV.

    4. Tanya Williams Talks Basketball Wives Petition & VH1 Dirty Secrets

      Alexis M
      Petition Organizer

When I received an email a couple of weeks ago asking if I would join a petition boycotting Basketball Wives due to the negative portrayal of women of color, I was too busy juggling my daughters' schedules, working as a “talking head” on television, writing articles about Trayvon Martin, and dealing with my estranged husband’s recent release from prison to respond to the inquiry. In fact, I gave little credence to the effective possibilities of the petition. However, with more than 20,000 names and growing, this petition could be a real problem for the Basketball Wives franchise.

"As a person who prides myself on turning lemons in lemonade, I had no idea how to turn the negative display of human behavior seen in Episode 12 into something positive, until now."

"What I experienced was extremely difficult and emotional for me, as I’m sure it is for all victims of bullying. Unfortunately, I had to relive my personal experience by watching it happen on national television. At the same time, I now have a platform to bring awareness to the issue of adult bullying in today’s society." Click the link below to read Keisha's blog.

This is a peaceful petition for positive change. You can't stop bullying by being a bully.

    9. Basketball Wives Evelyn Lozada too violent

      Alexis M
      Petition Organizer

I'm not a fan of 'Basketball Wives' but I have to say the few clips I have seen have left me horrified. I mean, to see a bunch of grown-up women arguing, name-calling, and threatening each other like bratty teenagers is just disturbing and not the least bit entertaining for me. And Lozada is by far one of the worst offenders, often resorting to physical violence when angered. In fact, I've already made it known that I think her terrible temper and apparent inability to control herself gives Latinas a bad reputation.

    10. Basketball Wives Viewer Ratings Drop!

      Alexis M
      Petition Organizer

Last week, Basketball Wives received only 1.75 million viewers, according to The Futon Critic. While those are high numbers – it’s not compared to the season premiere which drew over 2M viewers. And most significantly numbers are dropping weekly. Only two weeks ago the show was averaging about 1.87 viewers!

In fact, even academia is getting involved in protesting the series! Dr. Boyd Watkins, a Syracuse University professor, has compared the show to the totally tasteless Jerry Springer Show! Basketball Wives “should consider cutting to the chase and rebranding themselves for either mud wrestling or pay-per-view street fighting,” Watkins seethed.

    13. "Bitch Is Bullying" Evelyn Lozada And Tami Roman Bullying Quotes

      Alexis M
      Petition Organizer

"The saddest part of this whole situation is that middle aged women are selling this smut to kids. No self respecting grown woman blasts these ghetto proverbs across her chest. It's young girls that think this is cute and buy this crap up. And sadder yet, these too have daughters and through their actions have told their own children it's ok to beat someone because they don't want to talk to you. And if you get beat "you take your slap move on."

    14. Evelyn Lozada Bullying Quotes

      Alexis M
      Petition Organizer

A person who acts like a "Bitch" is behaving in an aggressive, malicous, and reckless manner (BULLYING). If a person is referred to as a "Bitch" that is a form of ABUSE. The word is used to control, depress, and demote. "Bitch Is Bullying," whether a person is acting like one or calling somebody one.

Evelyn Lozada and Tami Roman proudly promote destructive quotes to youth and viewers. The word "Bitch" is constantly being used by two grown adults who should know better (they both have daughters).

"Bitch, Bitch, and MORE BITCH! "-Tami Roman
"YOU ARE A NON FUCKN FACTOR BITCH"-Evelyn Lozada
"BITCH YOU AINT IN THE CIRCLE"-Evelyn Lozada
"Every time I see you, you gonna get stung BITCH"-Evelyn Lozada

"Bitch Is Bullying." Don't carry yourself like one or say it to anyone. There is nothing positve about the word "Bitch".

Talk with your kids about physical bullying (hitting), gang bullying (group), and verbal bullying (words).

      Cynthia: "Do you hate Evelyn?"
      Me: No.

Kiaya: "What made you start a petition?"
Me: Some teenage girls I mentor were having aggressive conflicts. They were using cruel verbal, physical, and psychological tactics to injure another child. I found out the ring leader was imitating some of the Basketball Wives (Evelyn & Tammie).

Hannah: "Why didn't you boycott Bad Girls Club and Love & Hip Hop?"
Me: I'm not familiar with either one. I suggest you start a petition. If you see a problem find a solution.

Eric: "How did you get so many signatures?"
Me: My sorors, professors, college friends, family, and you. Word of mouth.

Faith: "Do you watch Basketball Wives?"
Me: I watched the first season. My parents don't allow television in my dorm. I used to watch occasionally when I was home on break. I don't watch anymore.

Summer: "Are you affiliated with Star Jones?"
Me: No. This petition was created before Star spoke out. She brought more attention to the cause.

I (Alexis) called Vh1 to confirm if the story about Jennifer Williams being sued by VH1 was accurate. I was told TMZ's article is false. I am signing this petition and taking a stand against any network(s) that continues to capitalize and promote such barbaric behavior depicting such negative images for women of color. It's not just a matter of turning the channel, it is the principle of feeding into the greed of media at all cost! Evelyn Lozada is not a representation that I want my granddaughter or any young girl to view and think this acceptable behavior period!!!
