Victory

Bob Jones University has rehired G.R.A.C.E. to investigate the allegations of sexual abuse at BJU.

On January 27, 2014 Bob Jones University sent a "Notice of Termination" to Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment stating that the investigation was to be terminated immediately and that all work completed was to be kept confidential (i.e. not released to the public.)

Despite repeated requests from G.R.A.C.E. BJU has not given any reason as to why the investigation was terminated.

Bob Jones University not only signed a contract with G.R.A.C.E., but they also emotionally tied the victims of abuse -- the very victims who they ignored, berated, condemned, and vilified for years -- to this investigation.

By breaking their contract and their oath BJU is re-victimizing those same abuse survivors and it is an absolute tragedy what they have done.

This petition demands that Bob Jones University honor the terms of their original agreement and immediately rehire G.R.A.C.E. We demand that BJU allow the investigation to be completed in its entirety and the results published, unedited, in a public format.

To:
Bob Jones University, Office of the President, Stephen B. Jones
Robert Reynolds Jones III, Office of the Chancellor
Larry Jackson, Chairman of the Board of Bob Jones University
Rev. Marshall Franklin, Office of the Executive Vice President for Operation
Dr. Gary M. Weier, Office of the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
John D. Matthews, Office of the Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations
Dr. David A. Fisher, Provost
Carol A. Keirstead, Chief Communications Officer
Christopher Peterman, Director of Do Right BJU
G.R.A.C.E. Team, Ombudsman for Bob Jones University
Basyle Tchividjian, Executive Director of G.R.A.C.E.
We petition Bob Jones University to honor the terms of the original agreement by rehiring G.R.A.C.E. and allowing them to complete the investigation regarding allegations of sexual abuse at BJU.

Sincerely,

I am a Christian, but it is things like this that make sharing my faith with others that much more difficult. BJU, your fellow Christians are watching. Whatever the outcome, please be open and honest. Please don't let your students down, and don't let us down either.

I know first hand how important it is in the recovery of the abused to witness the process of justice and experience the acknowledgement by authorities (whoever they may be) that there was, in fact a crime committed, and that those in authority care about their hurt.

Let the truth out into the open square, where everyone can see it. If it be not truth, it shall be exposed as such. But if it is, then let light expose wells of darkness and dry them up through the pain of refinement.

I am sick of the abuse (sexual or spiritual) that is running amok in our Christian circles today! We have to stand up against this elitism that does not emulate the life and love of Christ!

Protecting rapists harms the body of Christ -- not exposing them. And it is the crime, not reporting it, that sends rapists to hell if they do not repent. Your covering up rapes will send YOU to hell if you do not repent.
