From Petition Organizer: Thanks to all! Owners are suing to overturn Marimow's firing, based in part on our petitions.

A publisher's role is not to reach over the shoulder of the editor and pick out specific editors to fire who have offended the publisher.  This is unprofessional and unethical.

Moreover, the release of human resources information to the public, as Mr. Hall clearly has done, is a breach of fiduciary responsibility and professionalism that is beyond unacceptable.

Please restore good journalism to The Inquirer and protect the public's right to receive news that is fair and untarnished by the political connections of one politically motivated owner of The Inquirer.

The published acted in an unprofessional and unethical manner and I liked the Inquirer under Marimow.

I once lived in southern New Jersey, grew up living the Philadelphia Inquirer, once worked for them as a stringer, and once considered it to be one of the best in the nation. The present incarnation is a ghost of what it was, but Mr. Marimow was one reason why it still maintains its excellent journalistic standards. His heavy-handed removal by a Norcrosse corporate stooge was a shock to me and a sign of inappropriate interference by management in the editorial department. He should be rehired and Mr. Hall sent packing.

Putting the top of editor of a major metropolitan newspaper in the position where he is told fire a number of colleagues of who have and continue to provide great work is untenable. Mendacity is the word that comes to mind. Hall must go.

Journalists are under siege. That means truth is under siege. I have come to see my newsroom cubicle as a foxhole. Everyday, I steel myself against the latest bad news, the latest cuts, the latest resignations, the constant anxiety and aggression of overstressed co-workers, the latest push for editorial content that we can package to advertisers. This is not about me. I'm still here because this is my calling. This is about all of us. I mourn Marimow and my experience in the trenches is that this is happening on some level in most newsrooms.
