Beaufort County Council, Hilton Head Town Council and Beaufort Parks & Rec: Share the Parks and Rec tax $'s equally and improve our Soccer fields

      Bob Cooke

      Hilton Head Island, United States

Nearly 1,000 of our children are playing on the worst soccer fields in Beaufort County and its getting near or at hazardous levels of play. Holes, sunken areas, raised sprinkler heads and large bald spots too numerous to count riddle our fields impacting level of play and causing a higher level of concern by coaches and parents.

This issue has been raised numerous times with little to zero impact occurring through normal channels and we are taking this very important issue directly to our community leaders. We need you to explain to us why our Hilton Head tax dollars are not reaching back to our fields for our children and why we need to go to this level of difficulty for conditions that should never have approached this level.

Sincerely,

A concerned Beaufort County citizen

Dear Concerned Citizens, Thank you for your letters. Obviously I am concerned that taxpayers are upset about the quality of our PALS programs. Beaufort County has invested in two seperate consulting firms to quickly evaluate our programs ...

Thanks for the Info. How come the HH TC or Administrator has not brought this to CC's attention or made a similar pitch up to now?

      Thanks,

Both of my kids played rec soccer for 3+ years and have since moved on to club teams that train and play at Chaplain Park. As a former coach I feel the safety and quality of the playing fields is extremely important. The sub-par condition of our own fields here on Hilton Head reflects badly on the image of our beautiful island.

Almost every kid on the island spends Saturday running up and down the soccer fields. They are not flat (or even close to flat) and often the sprinklers go off in the middle of the game - one parent had to spend half the game standing on a sprinkler head so the kids could finish their game.
