WE the undersigned, STUDENTS, PARENTS of children attending ADES and/or residents of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia and surrounding areas draw the attention of the ADES administration, staff and Student Advisory Council to the following:
FOR 2013 Mother’s Day was and Father’s Day will be replaced with Family Day, an event intended to respect the diversity of the student population.
HOWEVER in making the decision no respect was shown to the TRADITIONS associated with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day and no consideration offered up to those students and families interested in supporting the purpose of these traditionally hallowed days.
This decision was made solely by the school staff and administration with no community input. Further, the Student Advisory Council did not only not have an opportunity to bring their views, they were simply unaware and were excluded in the discussions and decision making process.
THEREFORE your Petitioners, STUDENTS, PARENTS and MEMBERS of the COMMUNITY whose names are recorded hereafter respectfully request that you immediately reinstate Father’s Day for June 2013 and to reinstate Mother’s Day 2014. IT is imperative that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, internationally recognized and respected traditions born to recognize with gratitude parents who have given so much be enjoined with Family Day to embrace both Tradition and Diversity.Explain why someone should support this petition

These are special days for mothers and fathers and their children. A cherished tradition whereas children show their love for their moms and dads, who I know appreciate it dearly.

Why isolate the majority? support the minority during holidays they do not celebrate but do not discriminate against children who have both or even one parent they wish to celebrate and honour on their special day.

Why were we "the parents" not asked what we felt. Why do a few families get to be the deciding factor. I was disappointed when nothing came home for us this past year. I asked the kids why and they really didn't know why. It's sad how the world is so scared to continue the way our parents lived.. they turned out ok.

Seems we would rather upset hetro sexual families than homo sexual ones...

A child was born into this world with a mother and a father, let them celebrate each parent's unique qualities!
