Antioch University Seattle prides itself on its commitment to social justice issues, community engagement, cultural diversity, and empowerment. The administration's decision to not renew Marcia Tate Arunga's contract directly opposes these values. Ms. Tate Arunga's role at AUS enriches the school'smission, as presented on their website, www.antiochseattle.edu:

Antioch University provides learner-centered education to empower students with the knowledge and skills to lead meaningful lives and to advance social, economic, and environmental justice. Antioch University Seattle stands out among universities and colleges in Seattle for its progressive orientation and leadership for change.

Besides being the first African American female professor in the BA Completion Program in 35 years she is also one of only two African American female professors on the Seattle campus, Marcia's teaching positively impacts, influences, and motivates students and the larger community to work toward solutions for social justice issues.

The university was extremely blessed to have had Marcia Tate Arunga as a faculty member. She is one of the most courageous and keen professors I have had the chance to learn from. Now that I am in a graduate program at Antioch, I feel disappointed that I cannot point to any courses that Marcia is taking after I reference her teachings throughout my program. Bring Marcia back!

Marcia Tate Arunga and I attended Mercer Junior High together, she is a very beautiful person and a hard worker she deserves to keep her position.

This is important to me because we still need diversity.

I am familiar with Marcia Tate Arunga's important work, locally, regionally and across the planet. She brings much value to Antioch University and to the broader community in an exceptionally outstanding way.
