Anthony Wayne Area Council: Reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy

    1. Petition by

      Isaac Lengacher

      Ft Wayne, IN

We, the Scouts and community members of Ft Wayne, IN urge the Anthony Wayne Area Council to reject the Boy Scouts of America's anti-gay policy.

Among service organizations, the Boy Scouts are increasingly isolating themselves with their discriminatory policy. Organizations including the Girl Scouts, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as the 4H Club all welcome gay kids as well as adult leaders.

We love the Boy Scouts, but we can’t support this policy. That's why we urge you to speak out against the ban on gay Scouts and leaders and adopt an inclusive policy like other troops, packs, councils, and lodges across the country have done -- so the Boy Scouts can maintain its relevancy, improve recruitment, and truly live by the principles it teaches its members.

NOTE: We encourage everyone to join this campaign, but if you're a current or former Scout or leader, please say so in the "Why People Are Signing" section. Thanks!

We are all Gods children, we are suppose to live in a free country.Laws are to be equal to all men. When will we not see race, sex, gay, religion as something to fear? But to love and accept regardless of beliefs.

I am a former scout and a current scout leader and I agree with rejecting the BSA's Anti-gay and anti atheist policies.

Currently an Assistant Scoutmaster, the BSA's anti-gay policy goes against the core of my spiritual beliefs while it pretends to be nonsectarian. I resent that the BSA tells my sons to be reverent, kind, loyal, and helpful out of one side of its mouth, then tells them to reject gay brethren in direct opposition to their religious beliefs out of the other side. Sexuality has nothing to do with the content of one's character, and it is morally reprehensible to reject LGBTQ people strictly because they are LGBTQ.

Because discrimination and bigotry do not belong in Scouting!

I was in the Boy Scouts all the way through to middle school! I left and later came out as gay! I shudder to think about what could have happened if I had came out to my fellow scouts!
