Stop Shortchanging Workers' Healthcare and Pay

    1. Petition by

      Focus on the Food Chain

We are truck drivers at Tom Cat Bakery, the most prominent industrial bakery for gourmet bread in New York City. We get up every day and work hard to deliver fresh high-quality bread to many of the New York area's most well-known restaurants, markets, and hotels. Our company is owned by Texas private equity investors at a firm called Ancor Capital Partners.

Tom Cat is carrying out a scheme where new hires and some veteran employees are said to work at a company that no longer exists and are compensated as second class workers. Because of this scheme and what we think is Tom Cat's attempt to divide us, around a dozen of us have a far inferior healthcare plan and lower wages. While we all wear the Tom Cat uniform and deliver Tom Cat bread, the company is shortchanging us by saying some of us don't actually work for Tom Cat. We insist on equal treatment for all Tom Cat workers.

As members of the workers' rights coalition Focus on the Food Chain, we are working to end the second class treatment of drivers at Tom Cat and to ensure that we can all support ourselves and our families. However, the company is resisting complying with the law and ending this illegal sham. Today you can help us convince Tom Cat Bakery to do the right thing. Please sign our petition calling on Tom Cat management and the Wall Street investors at Ancor Capital Partners to respect their workers and treat us all equally. We thank you for your generous support.

I am a food consumer that is concerned about both the quality of the food I eat and the well being of the workers behind the food. I was very disappointed to hear about the unequal treatment of the delivery drivers at Tom Cat Bakery. Tom Cat must ensure that all of its drivers are treated equally by being compensated fully to support their families.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,
