Ammend Ordinance 8.08.060 to Include "Release to Animal Rescue/Sanctuary"

This is important, because a judge has the power to euthanize a dog if it has only one encounter that he deems vicious, whether it may be or not, without knowing any circumstances. This is important because a recent case here in Nashville, Prada Andree, this dog was deemed vicious and sentenced to death. This is still a pending case with appeals to come, but there was no option to release it to a facility that had the means and capability to care for it, simply because the judge said the owner wasn't a fit owner.

We need the ordinance to change, so that dogs may live instead of being killed daily because someone elses opinions.

    2. How this amendment will effect the Prada Andree case

Just to clarify, this amendment will not effect the outcome of the Prada Andree case because the event happened before any amendment to allow a dog to be released to a rescue or animal sanctuary would actually take effect. amendments to ordinances are not retroactive, and since the unfortunate events that have happened to Prada were in 2011, and we haven't been able to amend the ordinance yet, Prada's fate still rests in the hands of the judges decision as he sees fit and in compliance with laws that were in place when those events took place. We are using this as an example of a draconian law that harms more than it helps, so that this doesn't happen to another dog in this county.

Resposible owners raise resposible dogs. Aggressive dogs can be rehabilited. All it takes is a little love.

BSL only directs attention from the real issue of promoting and requiring responsible dog ownership and appropriate screening of dog behavior on an individual basis. It sets the precedent for ultimately discriminating against dog owners, in general.

I know this dog breed, and they are a meek group, who are misunderstood due to bad owners, who are reckless with these impressionable, sweet dogs.
