Move to Informed Consent model for Transitional Care

Right now if you happen to be transsexual, transgender or gender non-conforming and are wishing to receive transitional medical care including but not limited to: hormone therapy, surgeries, certain documental updates/changes (depends on what and where you are), and other related care you must be diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder (GID) or as may be written in the DSM V, Gender Dysphoria. How someone feels, expresses, or sees themselves regarding gender is not a disorder and neither is it abnormal. We demand that all transitional care be moved to an Informed Consent model like any other type of care. Trans and gender non-conforming people currently must be judged fit enough to make these decision why not allow them to make these decisions with respect for their right as people to choose for themselves what is done to their bodies. The current system of gatekeepers comes from an already out-of-touch older system stemming from blatant transphobia from decades past. It is time to move to a new and better system designed with the person's dignity and respect in mind. Please join me telling World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), The American Psychiatric Association (APA) and The American Medical Association (AMA) to do the right thing for trans and gender non-conforming people by moving all transitional care to an Informed Consent model.

If we can decide whether alternative treatments or therapies are within our rights to accept or deny, why then are we not given the same rights regarding transitional care?
