Remove the book "To Train Up a Child" by Michael and Debi Pearl

This book is atrocious. It has been linked to the deaths of three children, Lydia Schatz, Hana Williams and Sean Paddock. This book teaches "discipline" in the form of child abuse, neglect and torture. As a long time customer of Amazon, I was shocked to see that this is sold through their company. No one should advocate that a child should be whipped or spanked into submission as this book does. The book states: "Give 10 licks at a time, more if the child resists. Be careful about using it in front of others -- even at church; nosy neighbors might call social workers."

As you can see from this article, this book has been linked with these deaths. http://www.examiner.com/article/another-child-s-death-linked-to-pearls-and-to-train-up-a-child

Why would anyone support this kind of parenting? Why isn't someone doing something about it? Please join me in this fight. Amazon please remove this horrible book immediately.

    3. Books don't kill children, parents do.

Many people have opposed this petition, writing me messages asking me to remove my petition, following the idea that this book doesn't kill children, parents do. While many of us can probably agree that this book itself does not hold direct blame for the deaths of children, I think we can all agree that the writers hold some responsibility. I read a very moving article recently from a mother who used to follow the Pearls' teachings. You can read it here: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/nolongerquivering/2011/11/corpses-dont-rebel-a-former-follower-of-michael-pearls-to-train-up-a-child-reacts-to-the-death-of-hana-williams/

The author states, "We were looking for confirmation that some part of this system worked."

While this book does not directly kill children, it takes the accountability away, offering reassurance that hitting children into obedience is a valid form of parenting.

Corpses Don't Rebel: A former follower of Michael Pearl's "To Train Up A Child" reacts to the death of Hana Williams

Trigger Warning: This article contains graphic descriptions of infant and child abuse. httpv://youtu.be/BP3gvhaA4uo This piece was submitted by No Longer Quivering member, "ExPearlSwine" - who understandably wishes to share her story anonymously. The death toll from parents following Michael and Debi Pearl's teachings continues to mount.

Oops! I had no idea an ad for amazon would show up in the news feed if I included the websites URL. That wasn't my intention to promote their site in a positive way!

The content of this book (and probably more of Pearl's books) is absolutely disgusting.

I was physically abused as a child, and it left me with deep emotional scars. So the fact that this incredibly harmful, twisted book of archaic child rearing is actually on sale at amazon.com makes my blood boil.

this is a book that should be banned totally. The author should be prosecuted and jailed. Disgusted, appalled, horrified....don't do enough to explain my feelings.
