Not be open on Thanksgiving Day/Evening!

It used to be that Thanksgiving was a day for families in America to give thanks and spend time together. The whole family gathering around the table and enjoying a nice meal and taking some time to reflect on the year that has not ended yet but time to give thanks for all that we have and been blessed with either way. It wasn’t until recent times that the following day turned into this corporate driven day for shopping early, but now it seems these greed driven retailers have decided to just do away with thanksgiving all together and be open that day as well. For what just to get an extra day to get your hard earn money out of your pocket! Now because of this some families will have to either celebrate Thanksgiving early and/or not at all. Do we really need to have the stores open on Thanksgiving Day; is it not enough to be open the day after? Some people work in retail because that is all that they can do and some work in retail because that is what they want to do, but do we really need to take them away from family and friends just so that “we” can get the jump on Christmas? Let’s send a message to the retailers across America and make them change, before you know it Christmas day will be open for business and then we will all have fallen further into the corporate greed.Explain why someone should support this petition

You big retailers are gradually re-introducing slavery back into our society. You guys suck. All you care about is making money for your investors who already have plenty of money! You give full-timers much less than 40 hours a week so they will never have the chance to earn time-and-a-half. You hand out foodstamp applications to your new hires because you want taxpayers to subsidize the little salary you pay! I know your tricks. You don't care if people can't afford to pay for their own place to live. You would be happy to employ nobody but teenagers living with their parents if you could. But if YOUR retail chain thinks that way, and another thinks that way, then ALL the chains will think that way and we won't have anybody in America who is able to afford housing! Except a handful of smart people who are professionals like architects, doctors and lawyers. Can't you see that you are helping to eliminate the middle class!? Not everybody has the capability to be a professional! Stop making people stock your shelves and ring up customers and spend many hours laboring for you while you laugh to yourselves in the boardroom as you find ways to pay less and less each year! And on top of that, you are making employees get up from their Thanksgiving table to serve your needs? F you!

I worked in retail for 14 years. It is hard work, and there are only 3 days of the year which the stores are closed. Retail assocs. deserve to have the day off to be with their family, to relax and prepare for a busy day on black Friday. This is just greed at its worse and the CEO's who are behind this should get into their store and work on Thanksgiving, but they won't it will be their employees. I encourage everyone to not shop on Thanksgiving and boycott any store that is open on Thanksgiving. Only stores with an open pharmacy for needed emergency medicine should be open.

Thanksgiving is a day for Family and Friends to be together and "give thanks" for the love they share, and the life they have TOGETHER! They should not be separated so the large businesses can get richer! There is absolutely no reason to steal this time away from Families, other than to line the pockets of the filthy rich! They will be with their families, I am sure!!! NOT RIGHT!!! NOT FAIR!!!

The employees of these stores should be home enjoying the holiday with their families. I signed a similar petition last year against Kmart, Walmart, Sears, and ToysRUs and have also boycotted them ever since and will continue to do so as long as they open their stores on holidays. This year Target has joined this list.

I will not do any Christmas shopping this year at any store that is open on Thanksgiving day. I have a toddler, but will find other options to purchase diapers, toys, and gifts. And if I find good alternatives I probably will continue to give those stores my loyalty.
