We in the Harry Potter Generation grew up with the notion that no one should have to live in the cupboard. That “differences of language and habit are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.” We believe that “it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow up to be.”

As people who have grown up with Albus Dumbledore as a mentor, we choose what is right over what is easy, we choose to acknowledge our friend, our fellow fan, and our fellow American Julian Gomez as someone who should be given the same right to dream, and the same access opportunity as all of us who received citizenship by being born here. America is Julian's home -- it is what he has always known. He Defines American. And as he bravely steps out of the cupboard as one of nearly 12 million Americans who are fully part of our communities even without papers -- we choose to protect Julian with our most powerful magic, the light and love of our collective Patronus.

Expecto American, Julian. We stand with you.

This issue is very close to my heart. My fiance is Mexican born, and although he is one of the lucky ones who will be able to attain citizenship, many of his family members will never have that opportunity. Some cannot even attain a visa to visit, not because they are criminals, but because of their economic status. That, is disgusting.

Julian is a positive contributor to not only the HP fandom, the HPA and the greater community - but also I am sure to the lives of those he touches around him. Why that isn't a quality America embraces I don't know why. DFTBA.

I think Julian has the right to enjoy a normal life: be able to have a job, an ID, and be respected and recognized by the law.
