On Friday August 31 radio shock jock Alan Jones of 2GB declared "women are destroying the joint". Alan Jones said that $320 million dollars to improve opportunities for the political, economic and social advancement of women in the Pacific constitutes an attempt to destroy the joint.

“She (the Prime Minister) said that we know societies only reach their full potential if women are politically participating. Women are destroying the joint – Christine Nixon in Melbourne, Clover Moore here. Honestly.”

Alan Jones' radio show is broadcast between 5.30 am and 9.00 am and many young people would have heard this over the breakfast table, or in the car on the way to school.

These comments do nothing to stop violence against women.

It is surprising that any company would want to pay money to associate their branding with such sexist comments.

We call on all companies who advertise on 2GB to publicly distance themselves from Alan Jones' latest sexist tirade, and to make a contribution to furthering gender equality as a sign of support.

Jones is a disgrace. He should man-up and pay for the damage he has done.

Enough is enough. Who does Jones think he is? He has a position of responsibility on the powerful media known as radio. He has no control or sense of this position based on his irresponsible comments. Business that sponsor his program should grow a set and show him the same respect he shows people he targets to expand his own persona or run the risk of being tarred with same brush.

Just look at what is happening to Tony (I wanta be the prime minister) Abbott. Don't underestimate the Ozzie people.

Hyundai, have their advertising banner on the 2GB site plain as day. As a car often considered by women as an appropriate model, I would definitely ask women to reconsider and choose anything else. They support Alan Jones, then get him to buy your cars ....

Gender equality is one of the most important issues facing this planet - Alan Jones can make a difference but instead he chooses to keep the inequality going strong.
