Add ABE & GED to Khan Academy

Khan Academy has AWESOME videos and practice problems for SAT, GMAT, and other test preparation. Adults who are struggling to improve their English reading and writing skills, or master the 5 subjects to pass the GED test, are at the bottom of our economic ladder. Educating low literate adults brings children out of poverty while reducing crime and government spending. Eager adult learners should be the first priority and target audience for a "free world class education [for] anyone anywhere."

    1. Thank you for your support! Announcing PrepWorks.org

I am so thrilled to have 104 supporters for adding adult basic education & GED preparation to Khan Academy. And we got Khan Academy's attention! While they are too busy to add a playlist right now, they might be interested in adding high quality content developed by others. One of the campaign supporters, Joe Klunder, has been working with me to create a simple website that compiles all the free resources we can find for GED preparation. Please check out PrepWorks.org: subscribe to the blog to get ABE & GED prep resources in your inbox, let us know if you have anything to contribute, and share the link with others!

We're on a roll! Please share this petition with your family, friends & colleagues this weekend. If each of you just get 4 people to sign, we will reach our goal!

And we have Khan Academy's attention!!! They are too busy to create an ABE & GED prep playlist right now, but would be interested in possibly incorporating things others create on ABE & GED preparation. So let's keep this petition going to tell Khan Academy and the world that adult literacy learners are an important priority!

We know there's no replacement for an excellent instructor. But having a free, online playlist at Khan Academy can help programs have more money for instructors instead of books. Instructors will be able to keep track of their adult learners progress to help everyone involved know where they stand.

Let's get Khan Academy's attention and make this a reality! I posted a short video about why this is so important to me:

Thanks to all who have signed and are sharing this petition! I was just on a webinar today about how the Common Core Standards will impact adult education, and guess which resource they recommended for math?

Khan Academy! But there's no playlist specifically for adult basic education and GED preparation yet. Let's see if we can change that!

    6. 26 Days Left!

The deadline is April 30, 2012 to get at least 500 signatures for this petition. Please tell your friends, family, colleagues, teachers, and adult learners say WE ALL want this to happen! Please send a short email with a link to our petition. And if you come back to the petition page signed in with Facebook, you can share with 16 friends today! Our message: Help us get 500 signatures in 26 days.

If we reach 500 signatures but Khan Academy still hasn't responded, I will escalate to raise funds for a postcard campaign on IndieGoGo. But only if you help spread the word that adult literacy deserves to be a priority!

We've reached some milestones in the campaign to Add ABE & GED Preparation to Khan Academy:
57 signatures of the Change.org petition,
12 likes of the Facebook page, and now...
Khan Academy just added a new feature to their website allowing YOU to VOTE on topics you want to see! Scroll down to the black & orange pen "Farrell Ink" icon and vote for GED prep, Pre-GED & English language literacy for adults.

People are talking about the campaign and asking how it's going! Now that we have some momentum, let's turn up the heat! Get your voice heard by VOTING online and look for the launch of a postcard campaign within the next couple weeks.

This new VOTING page on Khan Academy is a good opportunity to check in with any colleagues, friends or family who might have missed the petition.

      Sincerely, Meagen

We already have some students use your site & they love it!! Also -- many of our ABE/GED students have children. Once they are introduced to it themselves, they can show it to their children. These are the families that need your help the most. Thank you for your excellence.

Khan Academy has a great reputation for making learning easy and accessible. Make GED preparation as available as possible for as many students as possible through the internet!

We already recommend Khan Academy to our adults students. This would make GED preparation even easier for our rural population.
