Save the front lawn from retail development

Save the front lawn from retail development

"Natural resources are limited; some are not, as it is said, renewable. Using them as if they were inexhaustible, with absolute dominion, seriously endangers their availability not only for the present generation but above all for generations to come."

- Pope John Paul II

The financial fix being proposed is an expedient, short-term solution that could have profound negative long-term consequences for the future of Holy Angels.  The iconic green space that has framed the front of Holy Angels since its establishment will be transformed into retail parking and a two-lane drive-through pick-up window for Walgreens.  The green space, as seen on this photo,  simply will become store number 8,542 in Walgreens' inventory.

Please join us this Tuesday, July 22 at 6pm in the Bartholomew Room at Richfield City Hall (6700 Portland Avenue). It's at that time in which Semper Development and The Academy of Holy Angels have requested a meeting with the Council and Planning Commission to discuss the feasibility of development at the corner of 66th Street and Nicollet Avenue. Representatives of Holy Angels will be present to provide background on how the decision to sell a portion of their property was made.

Since we were not effective with the AHA Board of Trustees, it is NOW, at the City level, that we can halt and reverse this sale. We can get back to the business of driving positive enrollment growth. We can press into service the untapped alumni resources. We can start working together as a community.

      Hope to see you Tuesday!!

Many found memories on lawn of AHA. No fond memories of Walgreens.

the front lawn makes this school look and feel like an ivy league school. It has tradition and value in its open, grand grassy space. It sets the school apart and gives Richfield something to be proud of. It needs to retain this stately and beautiful space as part of its school lawn. We don't need another retail corner. If nothing else, it should be purchased by the city then and made into a public park.

Richfield's green spaces are under attack from every direction and we must save what we can. We DON'T NEED A NEW WALGREENS! And what do you suppose would take Walgreen's current space? Why, a CVS, of course! Which we also don't need. If Holy Angels is in need of money, perhaps they need to look inward.

As a long time resident of Richfield (30+ years) I am proud to have Holy Angels Academy as a neighbor. I strongly feel the retail development they are seeking will be view as a blight to the community and will only serve to devalue the fine reputation of Holy Angels.
