In recent years, fish populations around the world, including popular restaurant species, have declined dramatically. One reason is overfishing -- fishing faster than a population can replenish itself. Other factors include pollution, habitat degradation, the damming of rivers and the diversion of water for agricultural irrigation. NRDC works to restore fish and their habitat by strengthening laws and treaties and ensuring that they're applied effectively.
